Photography folder delivery

How do you deliver RAW photos and an editing folder?

Separate client previews, final edits, and any originals included in the agreement before delivery. When a client or retoucher is online now, you can send tens of gigabytes of RAW files, XMP sidecars, and catalog data in the same folder structure.

Short answer

Place the RAW files, XMP sidecars, catalog data, and final images in clearly named folders. Confirm the delivery scope, select the complete folder, and keep both pages open until the receiver has saved everything.

Separate each delivery stage

  • Keep proof images in their own folder so nobody mistakes them for final edits.
  • Keep each RAW file beside its matching XMP sidecar with the same base name.
  • Include the previews, settings, or session data needed by a Lightroom or Capture One catalog.
  • Add a short note covering copyright, permitted use, and whether originals are included.

Keep the original quality

Desktop Chrome and Edge support a single file up to 200 GB and folders containing up to 20,000 files. File contents are not uploaded to or stored by the 8ma Quick Transfer platform, and the transfer does not create a permanent public download.

When is direct photo delivery a good fit?

Use it when the client or retoucher is online and the folder needs to move once. A proofing gallery, cloud drive, or client delivery service remains a better fit for long-term selection, repeated downloads, online review, or portfolio display.

Reduce missing files and version mistakes

  1. Organize the folder by shoot date, camera, or delivery stage.
  2. Open a sample of the RAW and XMP pairs on another computer.
  3. Check the file count after transfer and keep your local backup.
