Large software package delivery

How do you send a 90–200 GB installer or test build?

A full offline installer, simulation package, or enterprise test build can exceed normal attachment and cloud-drive limits. If one recipient is ready now, 8ma Quick Transfer can move a single file up to 200 GB directly between desktop Chrome or Edge browsers.

Short answer

Freeze the build, give it an unambiguous versioned filename, create a SHA-256 checksum, and test the installer once. Then select the package in 8ma Quick Transfer and keep both browsers open until the receiver has saved and verified it.

Prepare one verifiable delivery

  • Put the product name, version, platform, architecture, and build date in the filename.
  • Generate a SHA-256 checksum and send the checksum through a separate message.
  • Include release notes, prerequisites, and installation steps beside the package when they are needed.
  • Remove signing keys, credentials, internal endpoints, and development-only configuration.

Use a file or a folder?

Choose the installer file when the release is already packaged as one artifact. Choose the complete folder when the build depends on separate data, runtime, symbol, or documentation files. Desktop Chrome and Edge support folders containing up to 20,000 files.

What the receiver should verify

  1. Confirm the expected version and approximate size before downloading.
  2. Save the package to a drive with enough free space.
  3. Compare the downloaded file’s SHA-256 checksum before running it.
  4. Check the software publisher and digital signature when the package is signed.

When direct transfer is the wrong fit

Use an artifact repository, release portal, or object storage when the build must remain available, needs access control or audit history, or will be downloaded repeatedly. Direct transfer is best for a time-bound handoff while both sides are online; it does not create a permanent archive.
